Probably the rarest of Illinois watches designed  and produced exclusively by Illinois watch Company in 1929 . This model is white gold filled , case #164 (Keystone) and measures 28mm x 35mm and lug to lug 31.2. Movement is hand wound with 15 jewels just serviced and running great. Dial and hands are original and showing some minor aging ...but really nice after 80 years on the job. Anglo-Swiss Watch Co.     "INVAR"   14k solid gold              New Arrival

Super rare 20's solid 14k gold swing lug strap watch from Anglo-Swiss watch Co. "INVAR" . The 1920 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded for the discovery of invar, a steel alloy that hardly expands at all and thus is important in scientific instruments.  The word "Elinvar" itself is an acronym of the words "elasticity invariable," and watches so equipped do not require split compensation balance wheels, as do watches equipped with steel hairsprings. An added benefit of Invar is that it happens to be largely nonmagnetic, but that was just an accidental bonus, and not a primary design of the alloy.

Invar is used as a material for making standards of measure, pendulum rods in highly accurate clocks, and balance wheels in watches equipped with Elinvar hairsprings. Invar remains remarkably constant in size and shape under a wide range of temperatures, and it allows timepieces so equipped an extra measure of resistance to temperature and precise time keeping . Like Elinvar, it is also non-magnetic. Dial is original on this one and it's flawless with original luminous and absolutely perfect original Mercedes hands. Highest condition example  I've ever seen. Case is 14k hinged top and back and perfect in every respect! Case measures 34mm x 46.2mm overall and comes with brand new "Hirsch" glue down strap. Outstanding Museum quality watch!!
